You put your math skills to the test with this fun, yet educational game, Math Blaster. Its retro graphics remind you of a time long ago in school where learning was enjoyable through easy-to-control computer games. Math Blaster doesn’t fail to capture this idea from the graphics to the sounds; it’s a blast from the past. Along with the aged graphics and a retro-inspired spaceship, it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to hear a gritty video quality to match, which does complement the game rather than diminish the quality of it, as it only further adds to the retro feel of it all. The game is set in what is assumed to be the future as you travel from the cockpit of a spaceship alongside what you assume to be your pesky, robot sidekick. You are then introduced to a slew of interesting characters within a few moments of the beginning of the game.

You’re taken along this mathematical journey by a talking robot that introduces the concept of the game by sending you on a mission. Your intent in the game is to find your lost pet, Spot. The first stage of this journey into outer space is by eliminating trash which is where math comes in. You’re shown a simple math problem to figure and are offered a broad range of numbers that are displayed on various, floating junk that spirals endlessly within outer space. The tricky part of this depends on how well you aim at the trash that has the correct answer displayed on it. If you can manage that feat, you’re good to go with the math blaster.

But, you also have to balance destroying enemies’ spaceships as well as answering simple math questions. A task I found slightly difficult yet nevertheless fun. With this balancing act among tasks, I feel it not only keeps the player’s attention but also keeps them excited to learn as well as play in between. When I mention older crowds, there are always options to challenge yourself with.
